When it comes to weight loss, I like to know what foods I should eat. We all know what foods we shouldn’t eat! Blueberries are a good-for-you super (whole) food containing antioxidants that we should eat for those simple reasons. Did you know that researchers have found more compelling reasons why we should eat blueberries when it comes to weight loss?
Researchers found that if the animals were given meals enriched with blueberries, they lost fat from their stomachs.
Belly fat is linked to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. The rats also showed improved blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol.
The effect is thought to be due to the high level of phytochemicals – naturally occurring antioxidants – that blueberries contain.
The researchers found that they will break down your existing fat and stop the production of more fat cells, which are exactly the sort of thing you need in your weight loss battle. Make no mistake, this innocent looking fruit packs a powerful punch. When it comes to obliterating body fat.

Say no more. This is what I had Grant run out and buy for me over the weekend. That’s right, a 3 lb. bag of wild blueberries. (Mom, if you are reading this you can stop laughing now.) I eat them on oatmeal, Greek yogurt and in oat bran muffins. Yesterday, I ate 1.5 cups of blueberries. It’s been about two weeks and I’ve lost 4 pounds…..
However, I am counting calories and trying to exercise every day, which are the two most important things to do when it comes to weight loss. Trust me, I want to believe that there is some miracle linked to eating blueberries and weight loss. (Even the Zonefast Weightloss program that I am giving away is only going to work if you limit calories and exercise.)
So enjoy those blueberries. Count your calories and try to get some exercise. With or without blueberries, you will lose weight!
Here are some blueberry filled recipes that I found on the Dr. Oz website.
Wild Blueberry Avocado Smoothie
Rainbow Superfood Salad with Wild Blueberry and Balsamic
Carrot Salad with Wild Blueberries
Do you eat blueberries? I’ve enjoyed them long before this study, so it really wasn’t a stretch for me to include them in my diet.

I love blueberries. I brought home a fresh container yesterday and we ate the whole thing. I always have some in the freezer, too.
I’ve REALLY been trying to eat healthier and incorporate more fruits and vegetables. You feel so much fuller with them in your diet! The crazy thing is, I feel like I eat a TON more than most people I know and yesterday I just barely met the fiber requirement on calorie counter and I had: 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 tomato, 1 cup carrots, 1 cup celery sticks, 3 cups Boston lettuce, 4 large strawberries and 1/2 cup blueberries. I had to throw in some fibersure to make my fiber cutoff!
It’s true, the water packed fruits and veggies do fill you up. There are so many good reasons to eat blueberries that this study is like icing on the cake (pun intended!)
Very interesting! I have used the Wyman’s blueberries for baked goods but never in my oatmeal or yogurt. I’ll have to give that a try! Love blueberries!
I love them! I would happily include them in more of my diet if there’s even an inkling it would work!
Well girls, I am glad we are on the same page!
We love blueberries in our house. We go blueberry picking every summer and get a couple of huge buckets full so that we can freeze some of them. That way we have fresh ones all year long.
We love blueberries! My kids inhale entire fresh blueberries containers in minutes (sans the packaging, of course). They are not big fans of the frozen ones but I love them with yogurt, in smoothies, or muffins – easy on the sugar there, of course
wow, I had no idea. I love blueberries. We used to go picking blueberries in the forest when I was growing up. I guess this is why I was skinny then and not quite skinny now
Marina! There you go! Increase the blueberry intake and get back to me! Robin, what a great idea. Fresh is best. Dina I love them all those ways too – a very versatile fruit!
Jane the Wyman’s berries are so good – naturally sweet and delish!
I love blueberries, but I’d never thought of using them in a salsa. The Amazing Wild Blueberry Salsa on Dr. Oz’s site looks fantastic!
and life would be a little less happy w/o blueberry pie!
We buy this brand of blueberries all the time. They are delicious. My daughter puts them in her cereal or oatmeal every morning, she loves it. We do use them in smoothies especially over the summer. The recipes you listed sound great, we will have to try them too.
I wish I liked blueberries – they have so many great health benefits but ugh, they’re not my cup of tea at all.
Wow who knew! I love blueberries but certainly don’t eat enough of them like I should.
I didn’t know this! Will need to make sure to get blueberries every week. Might even see if I have enough space here to grow my own!
Good for you and tasty little things. Store well in freezer. I love them on cereal. We have a blueberry festival just down the road from where I live that I watch for every year to get a good supply.
I planted a blueberry bush in my yard so I will enjoy them with my diet this year!
I love blueberries, but somehow I don’t think they are quite as healthy when you eat them with cheesecake, lol. It sure is good though.
I love blueberries and enjoy them in my morning oatmeal, pancakes and on ice cream. We planted some bushes in our backyard a year ago but they haven’t kicked out much fruit yet.
