Happy Memorial Day Weekend! While many of us are cooking out, some may be dining out. I wanted to share with you some interesting ways that Boston Restaurants are going high tech!
Texting Your Waiter at Charlies Kitchen
It was only a matter of time, or in this case, maybe a testament to our need for instant gratification! At Charlies Kitchen in Cambridge, texting at the table is allowed as long as you are texting your new bff (your waiter!) Charlies Kitchen was one of the first to use Textmyfood, a customer-to-waiter text-messaging system. When your waiter is out-of-site, you cant text him your drink or food order directly to a touch screen in the kitchen! lol!
(Grant isn’t much of a gardener, but I am sure he would like to investigate the Beer Garden at Charlies Kitchen. This outdoor “garden” offers a full bar and menu, 18 draft beers and a beer stand for his convenience.)
No Bulky Beepers at Finale Desserterie & Bakery
You know those bulky beepers that the hostess often hands you after you’ve put your name on the list? You won’t find them at many Boston area restaurants because they are now using what’s called the Textaurant service. Finale Desserterie & Bakery, also in Cambridge, is using this service. The hostess enters your phone number into a machine that auto-texts you when your table is ready. Here is a peek at one of Finale Desserterie & Bakery’s creations. Now that is worth the wait!
Track Orders by Touch Screen at Uno Chicago Grill
Uno in Cambridge is using at test pilot version of a new high tech device called E la Carte. Customers can view photos and nutritional info. for all of the restaurant’s dishes, place orders, track the food’s progress from the kitchen and play games while waiting. Could this high tech. service be coming to an Uno near you? Time will tell!
