Three years ago, I reviewed the HomeRight SteamMachine Plus. HomeRight recently contacted me to let me know that the SteamMachine Plus was being discontinued and would I like to check out an alternative replacement floor steamer? Would I? Absolutely! Can I offer the HomeRight SteamMachine for giveaway to one of my awesome readers? Certainly! Thank you to HomeRight for sending me the HomeRight SteamMachine Model 52 for review and for providing this same item for giveaway!
HomeRight SteamMachine Model 52 Review
While I liked the first steam machine that I reviewed back in 2014, the HomeRight SteamMachine Plus, I admit I didn’t always use it. For quick floor cleanings, I would grab a certain convenient battery operated mop that you place a pad on the bottom and press a button for the cleaner to shoot out ahead of the mop. Do you know what I am talking about? I like using that because it is easy, lightweight, nothing to plug in and leaves a nice clean smell.
But does that do the best job? Not really. I would still have to go over the high traffic areas twice and use a razor blade to scrap up the stuck on foods that remained. Perhaps this SteamMachine would be a better alternative.
The HomeRight SteamMachine arrived in a fairly small box. It is a compact unit that was easily snapped together. The unit comes with 2 white microfiber mop pads. One of which was already attached to the large brush/mop pad. Also included is a two cup measuring cup and funnel to fill the unit’s tank.
After filling with two cups of water, I screwed the tank’s cap on tightly. I plugged the unit in. Once turned on, both orange steam light and red power lights are on. After about 8 minutes, the orange light turns off and the machine is ready.
Here is a shot of my floor before cleaning. It is a high traffic area, but was not very dirty at the time.
That being said, I figured the best way to tell how clean my floors were would be to look at how dirty the white microfiber cloth got after cleaning. So here is the before.
Here is the after, having cleaned the whole kitchen area.
Here is that high traffic area after.
Here is another shot of my clean floor after cleaning.
There is a lot to like about this SteamMachine. It is lightweight and the tank moves along behind me with ease. The cord is nice and long, so I can clean the whole kitchen without having to plug it into a different outlet. The steam is hot and powerful. Once I pulled the trigger, it came out strong and steady. I did notice that it picked up some stuck on foods easily. You can lock the trigger in place for continuous steam. A tank of water cleaned my whole kitchen. In fact, I didn’t have to refill with water. My floors look so nice and clean. The steam dries quickly and I didn’t notice any streaks.
According to Homeright, this machine cleans up to 99% of all germs and bacteria – all without chemicals, which as we know, can be harmful to pets and children. Not to mention, think of the cost savings when not having to buy floor cleaners.
The only thing I don’t like, and I have said this before, is that I miss that clean smell. So, as a possible remedy, I was thinking of adding a drop or two of lemon essential oil to the water – sort of like how a diffuser works. I will check with the instructions, to make sure doing that won’t damage the steamer. Otherwise, I am happy with how it works and the results. I would certainly recommend this SteamMachine.
