I remember when I was a young kid about 8 or 9 I loved to walk across our yard on top of that hard crusty layer of snow. I glided along and then, without warning, I went down with a loud thump breaking through. The snow was up to my knees. I carefully stepped back up onto a perfect section of unmarked snow and started all over again.
I recall that Christmas Eve. I was outside by myself, stepping on top of that type of hard crusty snow. I marveled at how it sparkled under our outdoor spotlights.
I wasn’t out there just to walk on the snow, I was listening for something. I looked up at the night sky trying my best to ignore the sound of the occasional car going by and the neighbor’s dog barking into the night.
After a brief moment of silence, I swear to you I heard sleigh bells off in the distance. I smiled to myself and thought, wow, I really did hear something! At the same time I saw a twinkle in the sky. Without a doubt, that was Santa Claus on his way to deliver all those wonderful presents!
Maybe it was just a star twinkling in the night, and maybe those sleigh bells were wishful thinking. But that simple moment brought so much joy for me, just a kid outside on Christmas Eve.
Do you have a fond childhood memory of a past Christmas Eve?
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy 2017!!!!
