Are you looking forward to the change of seasons? I do like the change of seasons, from fall to winter. Who doesn’t love a white Christmas? I am just not a big fan of the long, cold winters here in New England. Since we spend a lot of time being stuck indoors, I try to make the best of it by getting as cozy as possible. Here are a few of my tips for making you and your home a bit cozier this time of year.
Make your Bedroom a winter haven. I put an extra blanket on my bed during the fall and winter months. I also pull out my electric blanket for my legs, when I sit in the rocking chair and work on the lap top in my room. I have warm fuzzy pjs that I love to wear during our cold winter nights.
Dress for the weather – even indoors. My closet is stocked with all of my fleece jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts. I always have one on these days. I stay warm and I avoid kicking up the thermostat.
Winterize the windows. Our three seasons porch is not heated, except for our propane stove. We are fortunate that we have custom drapes that cover five out of seven sliders in that room. It is amazing how these drapes can keep the room warm. They provide that extra layer for nighttime insulation. When the sun is out, we open them up to let that solar energy warm things up.
Create some cozy crafts. This is the time of year that I pull out my needles and yarn and try to knit something. Last year at this time, I taught myself how to crochet. A cozy scarf or a warm pair of mittens would make a lovely holiday gift and keep a loved one cozy as well.
Try some different hot beverages. I find that a hot beverage helps to keep me warm. I like to try different teas during the winter months. Some nights I’ll heat up some almond milk and add some vanilla for a hot vanilla drink. Hot chocolate is always a favorite too. Even hot coffee seems to be more of a treat during the cold weather.
What are some of the ways you make yourself and your home cozy during the fall and winter months?
