I have exciting news about a new original holiday special premiering on Amazon on Friday, November 25th! Remember those fun children’s books, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Well, If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie is an animated holiday special based on that very classic If You Give a Mouse a Cookie book series written by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. It is available on Amazon, Friday November 25, 2016 to download and stream!
That book holds a special place for our family because If You Give a Mouse a Cookie was the first book that James read aloud to us! Grant kept the book too. How great is that?
To celebrate this upcoming holiday special, I am sharing the type of Christmas Cookie that this little mouse, (and your little mice) are sure to love – Soft Sour Cream Sugar Cookies! The secret ingredient is, you guessed it, the sour cream. The sour cream adds moisture but not taste. It makes for a very soft, ,pillowy sugar cookie – the perfect cookie to share at Christmas time!
Soft Sour Cream Sugar Cookies
Yield about 20 ea. 3″ cookie
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 3-4 Tbsp milk
- Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet, line it with parchment paper or use a silicone mat.
- Mix butter and sugar until well combined. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well.
- Add in all dry ingredients and mix into the wet ingredients alternating with the sour cream, until well mixed.
- Chill for 1 hour.
- Roll out on a floured surface and cut into shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet or one lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 7-10 minutes.
- Mix all ingredients for frosting in a medium bowl, and cover with plastic wrap until you’re ready to frost.
- Once the cookies have cooled, frost them. You can add a few drops of food coloring to the frosting until it reaches the desired color. Add sprinkles. We used Jingle Mix Nonpareils.
Do you recognize the character in these cookie cutters shown below? This is the mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Remember my post on our 3D printer? Grant designed and printed these cookie cutters on his 3D printer, which I think is pretty cool!
About If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie
In the special, it’s holiday time and in Mouse’s house that means Christmas cookies (including a special one for Santa, of course!), caroling with friends…and one nearly-destroyed holiday pageant. Can Mouse and his animal friends save the show without getting utterly distracted along the way? It’s a wild ride as Mouse and his friends reinforce for young viewers the friendship and caring that’s at the heart of the holiday season. Like the books, If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie special is centered on an “if… then” narrative structure that teaches cause and effect and encourages creativity among children.
The special is written and produced by Ken Scarborough (Doug, Curious George, Martha Speaks, Arthur, Saturday Night Live) and stars Mason Mahay (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie), Roger Craig Smith (Avengers Assemble, Wreck-It Ralph), Jessica DiCiccio (Over the Hedge), Jeff Bennett (Futurama), and Lara Jill Miller (The Loud House, Henry Hugglemonster, Doc McStuffins).
If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie also features an original song, “Christmas Cookie Song,” by Lisa Loeb, available exclusively on Amazon Music to download and stream November 25.
