I have read quite a few novels this summer. I am now on a fourth book. For me, a slow and fair weather reader, this is a lot! I am really enjoying my time reading – its a great escape. If you are looking for something thrilling to read, I recommend these books, in particular the last three! 😉
This is what I’ve read. If You Left.
This is about a woman named Althea who has bi-polar disorder and the story centers around her relationships, in particular with her husband and her daughter. Like a young school girl with a crush, she falls for the young painter that she has hired to paint her bedroom. I liked how the author really got inside this character’s mind to portray her mental disorder. It’s a quick read – perfect for the beach.
The next book I’ve read is Luckiest Girl Alive.
This book is about Ani Finelli. She has a fantastic job writing for a woman’s magazine and is about to marry a very handsome, successful man. She is doing her best to forget about the tragedies of her past – and they are horrible. However, what happened to her at her private high school is relived, as she must retell it as part of a documentary film. I don’t want to go into any details, because I honestly didn’t see them coming – and that is part of the excitement of reading the Luckiest Girl Alive. This was a great read – I just gave my copy to my hairdresser.
The next book is by Stephen King. It is Mr. Mercedes.
This book is more of a thriller than a horror story. Stephen King is who he is for a reason. Whatever the genre, he nails it. This is the first of a trilogy of books called the Bill Hodges Trilogy. Bill Hodges is a retired detective who is coaxed out of retirement with a letter he received from the Mercedes killer. This psycho killer drove a Mercedes into a crowd of people, killing 8. This once normal person is now beyond cra-zy. His relationship with his mom is in a word, disturbing. Stephen King knows disturbing and thrilling! Great read! I gave my copy to my friend Meghan. I am onto book number 2 in the series. Finders Keepers.
Book #2 is just as thrilling to read as #1. A famous author who hasn’t written in several years is murdered. He has written follow up novels all kept in notebooks. The killer believes these will be worth big bucks and takes these in addition to thousands in cash. The killer ends up in jail for an entirely different reason. A boy who lives in the killer’s old house has found the killer’s hidden notebooks and cash. The Mercedes killer in book #1, had injured the boy’s dad when he drove into the crowd. That’s the connection. I am just over half way through. It’s another thrilling read and then onto King’s latest in the series End of Watch. .
Have you had a chance to read this summer? What books have you read?
