I have this pipe dream. In the dream my whole house is organized from top to bottom. I’ve been watching You Tube videos on organization and even minimalism. I am not sure that I could ever be a minimalist, but I could at least be better organized. So as to not overwhelm myself, I have to think about one drawer at a time, one room at a time.
It’s not that I am cheap, but I do like to save money naturally. So these You Tube organizational gurus have done the work for me. They have been to the Dollar Tree, discovered every possible organizational product to ever line the shelves, and then use those items in their own homes. This is actually fun for me. I watch the videos, make my list of what to buy and head out to the store for the hunt.
I found baskets, wire drawer organizers of all different types, plastic bins and even chalk labels. How much? Just one dollar each! In some cases, the little baskets came in groups of three, so a 3 for 1 if you will!
I tackled my bathroom vanity drawers. Every last drawer was a mess – toothpaste, loose tooth picks, razors and bandages were all over the place. This is how this drawer looks now. Each wire basket was just $1.
Here is look at one of the messy drawers in the bathroom vanity. There are misc. products in baggies and Q-tips all over the place. That green thing is a sun tan lotion applicator. I have had the thing for years and NEVER used it. Into the trash it went.
Here is how this drawer came out. This is big for me, because all of these cleansers, moisturizers and things like Vaseline and cotton balls were scattered on the counter. Now they have a home and my counter top is spotless.
For years, I had all my nail polishes in a basket on top of the bathroom linen closet. They were all in a big heap in the basket. I cleaned out my bottom drawer and look at them now – all lined up so nicely in those wire drawer organizers. You guessed it! Just one buck a piece!
Can you imagine how my make-up drawer looked? It was a total disaster! Just look at it now. I lined the drawer with five plastic containers ($1 ea.) Now I admit, I have too many mascaras. While I’m at it, how many brown eyeliners does a gal need? Speaking of that, I saw that the Dollar Tree was selling Elf eyeliner in a pretty plum shade. (I bought that too!)
At least now I can find any mascara or eyeliners in a pinch. Fingers crossed it stays this way for a long, long, time!
Hair clips, rollers and pony tail holders were thrown into another plastic bin that was shoved on top of the linen closet right next to the basket full of nail polish. Now, I have my bobby pins and hair clips in one wire bin, brushes in another, and ponytail holders in their own spot.
In one of the videos on time management, I learned that the best people at time management are called multipliers. You multiply your time by giving yourself the emotional permission to spend time on things today that will give you more time tomorrow. Anything that I create a process for today, saves me time tomorrow. It’ as simple as organizing my bathroom vanity. I don’t have to dump my make-up bag out and search for each item that I need. I don’t have to clean off the bathroom counter every day. It’s such a simple thing really.
Here is one of the videos on the 20 best Dollar Tree Organizers that inspired me to get organized!
