Rewind to the year 1980. Six 11 and 12 year old girls at a slumber party at Barbara Harmon’s house sat on the floor in our pajamas our eyes glued to the tv. Then, Kenickie delivered his classic line –
“A hickie from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card, when you only care enough to send the very best!”
We all looked at each other, our eyes wide and our mouths in a round O shape and then we laughed and laughed and laughed some more. Ah, to be 11 again and watching a classic like Grease for the first time with a bunch of boy crazy girls – myself included.
The theme is Throw Back Thursday. By the way, Grease is a major throw back movie (1978) that is currently streaming on Netflix. In case you have never seen Grease, it’s satirical look at American teens growing up in the 1950’s. Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fell in love over the summer. They discover they’re now in the same high school. Will they be able to rekindle their romance? How fun would it be to get my old friends together to watch it all over again as middle aged moms?
There are so many fun throw back shows and movies on Netflix that there is bound to be something that you watched as a kid, and can share with your kids (or grand kids!) in 2015. For me, one classic cartoon that comes to mind is Scooby Doo. I loved to watch this cartoon with my brother when we were kids. If you’ve ever seen Scooby Doo, you would know that every single scary monster ends up being someone in a costume. But I kept watching anyway. It was still scary enough for me. Ryan has seen all of the Mystery Incorporated Scooby Doo episodes currently streaming on Netflix (seasons 1 and 2). He, too, is well aware that all of the monsters are really people in costume. But he loves it anyway. He’s a real chip of the ol’ block. 🙂
