The holiday season is busier than ever for our family. For those days we just don’t have time to sit down for a meal and we need to eat something on-the-go, I take the boys to their favorite place to eat on-the-go food – McDonald’s!
My son Ryan will occasionally still ask for a Happy Meal. At just $2.99, McDonald’s Happy Meal is the perfect option for families who are looking for simple lunch and dinner ideas that include nutritious options for their kids. To help us celebrate the holiday season, McDonald’s is offering one Moms Own Words reader a $25 Arch Card!
McDonald’s Happy Meals Now Have Cuties
Ryan must have seen a McDonald’s commercial on TV, because he came to me and said, “Hey Mom! Guess what you can get in Happy Meals now?”
(I was already aware of this great news!)
He seemed genuinely excited about this news and said he would indeed eat those Cuties! (I am actually not too surprised, they are one of his favorite fruits!)
Beginning Dec. 1, 2014, you may now enjoy Cuties in a Happy Meal, a Mighty Kid’s Meal, and alone, as a side option. Cuties are an easy-to-peel, kid size fruit option providing vitamin C and ¼ cup fruit.
McDonald’s is partnering with Sun Pacific, a family owned fruit grower, to deliver California grown Cuties to customers across the country. Cuties are available choice for a limited time while they are in season, until about March 2015
McDonalds will continue to expand the Happy Meal with more nutritious minded options. Side choices now include Cuties, Go-Gurt, and apple slices. Choose both fruit options in one meal or one fruit along with a Go-Gurt. Beverages include 1% low fat milk, 1% low fat chocolate milk or 100% apple juice. McDonald’s is constantly looking at its menu to ensure its giving their customers of all ages a selection of balanced choices.
Tips for Staying Happy and Balanced During the Holidays
The holidays can be a hectic time for parents and their families, they sure are for me. How will I ever do it all before 12/25? Well, it turns out that every year, I do get it all done and Christmas arrives and everyone is happy! Here are a few tips that help me to stay balanced during the holidays.
Make time for yourself! (Or in the words of Donna and Tom on Parks and Rec – “Treat yo Self!”) Do something that you find relaxing and enjoying to distress during this hectic time. I went to the movies with a friend a couple of weekends ago. I debated as to whether I should actually go to the movies or stay home and do the million and one things that I have to get done before Christmas. I’m so glad I went to the movie and got to spend some time with my friend Kathy. I am also just went to see a comedian this past Friday night with her. Again, I debated as to whether I should go, as it is pretty disruptive to the family schedule, but it was in the calendar and I went and had an awesome time!
Write it Down! Now I am most likely stating the obvious, BUT my best advice when it comes to staying balanced during the holidays is to take the time to write or type out your Christmas lists, your holiday to-do list, shopping lists, etc…This helps to get things off your mind and onto the “paper!” Crossing items off your list gives you a sense of accomplishment as well. I end up buying gifts for my extended family to give my kids so I have to really keep track of presents, costs and what I give to-who-to-give-to-them! I actually have an Excel sheet with each of my kid’s wish lists and what I end up buying. This helps me stay organized, keep track of what I spent and what gifts I’ve given out to family.
Keep Traditions Alive! Whether it’s setting up the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, going to a Christmas Show or parade every year, kids love family traditions. We are big fans of movies and when it comes to our tradition of watching Christmas movies together, we have some family favorites like Scrooge, Elf and of course, A Christmas Story! Keeping fun, holiday traditions means spending time together as a family creating happy memories that will last a lifetime.
