It is such a privilege for me to host children’s book giveaways from Candlewick Press. Time after time, I am impressed with the the quality of books that I find at Candlewick! The stories are well written and the illustrations are always a treat for the eyes.
What a surprise to find out that they recently published a 20 year anniversary edition of Guess How Much I Love You? and a 50 year anniversary edition of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! These classics would make lovely gifts this Christmas!
Add to that And Then Comes Christmas, a charmingly illustrated story that will inspire readers to bask in the magic of the Christmas season, and Winterfrost, a lively winter adventure featuring the magical nisse of Danish folklore. I am currently reading this to Ryan. I am impressed with the author’s storytelling ability. We can’t wait to find out what other mischief that Klakke gets into at the Larsen girls’ expense.
Finally, Animalium is a visual feast presenting more than 200 full-color specimens of the animal kingdom! This over-sized, colorful children’s book is perfect to pour over during a snowy afternoon indoors over the Christmas break.
I highly recommend snuggling up this winter with one of these excellent books from Candlewick Press. Easy to wrap or tuck inside a stocking, their seasonal titles are perfect for emerging readers or family read-alouds. Please visit Candlewick Press to view their 2014 gift-giving picks, tailor-made to spread holiday cheer!
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Famous for creating James Bond, Ian Fleming also loved fast cars — and this passion inspired him to write his only children’s book, penned for his young son, Caspar. Published fifty years ago in 1964, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car introduced the world to the thrilling adventures of the “crackpot” Pott family and the flying car with a mind of her own. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang became an instant bestseller that has been reinvented as a musical and a film (with a screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl) and has also inspired three sequels written by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Now, to honor half a century of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Candlewick Press presents a full-color gift edition ready to zoom straight into hearts of a new generation.

Christmas has come, and with it a sparkling white winterfrost over the countryside. But twelve-year-old Bettina’s parents have been called away unexpectedly, leaving her in charge of the house, the farm, and baby Pia. In all the confusion, Bettina’s family neglects to set out the traditional bowl of Christmas rice pudding for the tiny nisse who are rumored to look after the family and their livestock. No one besides her grandfather ever believed the nisse were real, so what harm could there be in forgetting this silly custom? But when baby Pia disappears during a nap, the magic of the nisse makes itself known. To find her sister and set things right, Bettina must venture into the miniature world of these usually helpful, but sometimes mischievous folk. A delightful winter adventure for lovers of the legendary and miraculous.
And Then Comes Christmas
From icicles clinging to roofs and houses strung with colorful lights to visiting Santa and hunting for the perfect tree, this classic-in-the-making celebrates all of the holiday’s excitement. Evoking both winter’s changes to the world outside and well-loved traditions taking place within, here is a story to encourage readers to curl up with their loved ones and bask in the magic of the Christmas season.
