This is Markus Persson. He is the Swedish video game programmer and designer responsible for my kids spending hours on my lap top playing a little game called Minecraft. Now I know who to blame and I thought you guys might like to know too! 😉
To say Minecraft is a craze is an understatement! James needed a new lap top for school, but like many other kids, he spends a much more time playing Minecraft compared to using the lap top for school work. He has a fancy “gaming mouse” too, of course.
I really don’t know too much about Minecraft. I don’t have the time or inclination to figure it out. These portable edition books are perfect for parents who do want an easy guide to how to get started with Minecraft.
Minecraft for Dummies Series Books Review
James picked up Minecraft for Dummies and learned a few things (even after playing the game now for several months.) He was interested in ending the game. He found out how to make “the end portal” to kill the ender dragon. The book instructs how to do this in the creative mode to test it out. He also learned what he needed to do before conquering the ender dragon. He needed to prepare for the battle with swords, a bow, blocks and use other safety precautions.
These guides are small and very portable. Ryan has been bringing them to school in his backpacks to read on the bus and show their friends that are into Minecraft.
Like other “for Dummies” books, these contain quick reference icons indicating tips, reminders, warnings and technical stuff to be aware of. This series has nice colorful screen shots of the game (called figures in the book) that provide helpful visuals when learning how to play the game.
It’s amazing to me how intricate this video game is! For example, there is an entire book here on “Redstone for Dummies” What the heck is Redstone? Redstone can be made into various blocks that can be powered or unpowered with a sort of electric charge – they can be powered by certain sources, and they can power other items in turn. He just explained to me that you have to mine the Redstone. He currently uses Redstone to power lamps and a piston – just looking at this guide I can safely say, he has so much to learn!
Minecraft Recipes for Dummies contains information (recipes) for weapons, armor, transportation, mechanism, food, dye, wool, and brewing, as well as information on enchanting, repairing, gathering, farming, efficiency, and more. James likes this recipes book to refer to if he forgets how to make something. For example, he forgot how to make a fence and simply looked it up in the book. As I said, he has so much to learn!
If you have a Minecraft fan on your holiday list, they will love these portable guides. While there is a ton of information for the newbie, even the experienced player will learn new facets of the game from these guides.
