Noodles & Company Restaurant Review
The Noodles & Company that we visited is about 1/2 hour away from Grant’s work located at 50 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. This was convenient because we picked him up after work and headed right to the restaurant. They had a few tables outside for folks to sit at. A couple of the crew members were outside promoting their rewards program Noodlegrams (see info. below.) Ryan spun the wheel and won a free bowl!
A helpful employee explains the menu and how to order. The first column lists Italian Dishes like Penne Rosa, Pesto Cavatappi and Pasta Fresca. The middle column includes the Asian Dishes like Japanese Pan Noodles, and Pad Thai. The last column includes American fare like Wisconsin Mac and Cheese and Spaghetti and Meatballs. We chose our entree, picked the size, added meat (I added grilled chicken to my dish) and for $1.00 more you can “green it up or soup it up” with a soup or salad.
As for drinks, one of the crew is stocking the fridge with ice teas and waters. The other option is the soda machine that has every possible flavor of soda that you can imagine. James said and I quote, “The soda machine is beast mode”. (This is what sixth graders are saying these days.) Ryan tried the vanilla root beer for the first time and really liked it. Otherwise, they will be serving local beer and wine when their liquor license is granted.
We took our number and sat at a table near the soda machine. The service here was extremely fast and the staff was courteous and helpful. We only waited about five minutes and our dishes arrived.
Here are the meals we selected. Grant had the Alfredo MontAmore. This is the featured dish of the month which includes spaghetti noodles, four cheese blend, veggies and Parmesan chicken, topped with MontAmore cheese, parsley and cracked pepper. This meal has 1270 calories and was $8.49.
Grant is a big pasta eater and he was in heaven. He loved the combination of cheeses and thought the chicken and noodles were cooked to perfection. He took a quick turn and entered the firey depths of hell when he added the extremely spicy Smolder from Boulder. He was was sweating, but it was a good pain. He thought the added hots were outstanding!
Here is my Indonesian Peanut Saute which has a spicy peanut sauce over rice noodles. This peanut sauce was sweet, spicy and delicious – just the right amount of spicy kick for me. I was impressed at the presentation and that the broccoli, carrots, cabbage and Asian sprouts were fresh and delicious. This meal is $5.89 without added meat. You may add grilled chicken breast, marinated steak, shrimp, oven roasted meatballs for $2.39 – $2.69 more. I added the grilled chicken breast and the total calories for this meal is 950.
They do not have a kid’s menu, however, the small size entrees were great sizes for the kids. James had the spaghetti and meatballs. This is traditional long spaghetti with meatballs topped with crushed tomato marinara and Parmesan. The small bowl has 690 calories and cost $7.09.
Now for the fussy eater. Ryan ordered a small buttered noodles. This was a great choice for him. His simple small dish of buttered wavy egg noodles with Parmesan (hold the Italian seasonings please) looked very good and he nearly finished it all, but wanted to save room for dessert. This small dish has 470 calories and cost $4.69.
For dessert, we sampled their cakes. The Doppio Chocolate Espresso Cake has “twice the chocolate” and James loved it so much that he didn’t want to share. Ryan is a big fan of carrot cake and he nearly gobbled that entire piece up by himself. I thoroughly enjoyed the Tres Leches Cake which is a rich vanilla cake topped with a sweet milky sauce. While I offered Grant a taste, I was thrilled when he declined. Not that I needed it, but, more for me. 🙂
The consensus is eight thumbs up. I love the variety of noodle and pasta dishes and that you have a choice of seven different meats (or Tofu) that you can add to your entree. You can mix and match your favorites and the options are endless. The prices are reasonable for the fast, friendly service and the fresh, delicious food. While I wasn’t mindful of calories this particular day, they do offer several options that are under 500 calories. (The diet starts Monday – I’m pulling that old chestnut.)
When considering the kids, what kid doesn’t like noodles? For those that are gluten intolerant, they offer gluten-free pastas too. This is a perfect spot for a quick business lunch or a quick family meal. The kids won’t have time to get impatient waiting! Speaking of fast, according to their menu, you may order in advance online and it will be ready when you get there. Good stuff all around and we will be back!
