Wordless Wednesday Braces #WW

I had braces when I was 13 and had them for three years. I know my youngest son Ryan will need braces, but I am not convinced he needs them right now, at the tender young age of 8. Did you or has anyone in your family ever had braces and how old were you when you or your kids had them?

    I had braces at age 13 for about 18 months to correct my buck teeth and overbite. I think the main thing I always hear is that it shouldn’t be done until ALL the adult teeth are in, unless the position of a baby tooth is causing problems for the awaiting adult tooth. Not too sure anymore, it was so long ago!

    Yup, I had braces. They were brutal. My little man hasn’t lost any teeth yet, so I don’t know about him, but so far my older guy’s teeth are coming in ok. Phew.

    My daughter has had them for about 6 months. I swear we live at the orthodontist. My 9 year old will need them as well. I am not looking forward to going through another round of this!

    I had braces when I was in middle school. I hated them so much! I wore them for years though. My teeth were straight after that.

    I had braces for about 10 yrs and only finally managed to take it off before I got married at 22yrs old. There were lots of complications with my teeth that’s why I had to have it on for so long.

    I should have had them when I was younger, but didn’t. My odlest daughter will for sure, they said when she’s about 13…

    I think they look quite smart, no I never had braces although I’m surprised i wasn’t given a gag to shut me up for 5 minutes LOL

    No braces in my family yet! My two have gap teeth! Think the elders teeth are moving closer together but she sucks her thumb! Actually my brother had and he was in a lot of pain for a long time BUT he now has lovely teeth!

    Guessing my youngest will need them. He’s got a gap in his front teeth…he’s only 5, so I’m hoping he won’t (knocking on wood those adult front teeth come in together <– does that happen? lol ).

    I never had braces, they definitely don’t seem pleasant. Can’t they use another method like Invisalign now instead of the metal ones? They just seem so uncomfortable…

    I have not had braces, but my sister did and she got them at 12 years old. I wonder if that is late, but her teeth are fine now. My niece had braces and she got them when she was 11 years old. Braces really work, but I know that they are expensive!

    Oddly enough, while I’ve never had braces in the past, my dentist the other day mentioned that I might want to visit an orthodontist to get an opinion regarding braces and/or a retainer since it seems that my front tooth has started to turn a bit. I’m 28 (29 in March) and am finding myself wondering the opposite question…when are you too old for braces. Good luck!

    Hi Kris,

    Just wanted to mention that my husband was about your age if not a bit older. He got the braces then because he could afford it and now I am taking our son to the same orthodontist. Funny how things come full circle! Good luck Kris!

    You said it Karen, braces aren’t cheap. Folks can expect to pay 6 to 7 K by the time they are done. Thank goodness for financing…..

    I wore braces in college which was AWFUL, especially way back then when few “older” people wore them. I have two teenagers and they both had their braces taken off in the last six months. Thank goodness those payments are over! It was like having a car payment every month!

    my daughter got them at age 14 an wore them for a few years,but they were colored an looked cute,,but the min she turned 18 she had them taken out,,,
