Scents that Stir Up the Joy of the Holidays #DDatHome

When I was young, my parents used to pack my older brother and younger sister and me up in the car and we would make the 4 and half hour ride to my grandmother’s house in New Jersey for Thanksgiving. As a young girl, I loved the smell of turkey cooking for hours in her old fashioned gas stove. She had the tiniest kitchen, but she made some amazing Thanksgiving dinners that I will always remember. Fast forward to today, and when I smell that turkey cooking away, it brings me right back to those good-old-days.

Every holiday season my mother used to make caramels and fudge to package up and give as Christmas gifts to friends and family. I remember the smell of chocolate floating in the air she stirred the pot. Even the caramel had that unmistakable sweet smell as it bubbled away on the stove.

On Christmas morning, I wake up to the smell of a fresh pot of coffee brewing (thanks to Grant).  It’s my favorite way to start every day and Christmas is no different. What better way to enjoy homemade Belgian waffles and real maple syrup than with a second cup.  After Christmas dinner, it has become a tradition for my family to enjoy a cup of decaffeinated coffee with a nice slice of chocolate cream or apple pie a la mode.

Every Friday, I treat myself to a Dunkin Donuts caramel latte. I am like a wide-eyed kid getting a new toy as the clerk hands me my latte and protective sleeve. As I am such a big fan of flavored coffees, I was anxious to try the Dunkin Donuts Gingerbread cookie coffee. It’s very good – that same rich Dunkin coffee that I love with a hint of sweet gingerbread and I can enjoy it at home. This is my new holiday favorite. Coffee really goes well with the holidays. Don’t you agree?

I’ve tried the Mocha Mint and let me tell you, I LOVE IT. I am more of a K-Cup kind of girl, though and I just stocked up on their new Peppermint Mocha K-Cups the other day. Yum!!

I don’t drink coffee but my wife does. We have a Dunkin Donuts pretty close to the house and she is there a couple of times a week getting her “fix”. I like the smell of coffee, just not the taste.
