Author Henry Winkler Ghost Buddy Series Scholastic Childrens Books Giveaway 9/13

Scholastic Books proudly releases Ghost Buddy #2: Mind If I Read Your Mind? by New York Times-bestselling authors Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver. Ghost Buddy #2 is the follow-up book to the very successful 1st in the series, Ghost Buddy: Zero to Hero. I received both of these children’s books for review and one Moms Own Words reader will win copies of Ghost Buddy 1: Zero to Hero and Ghost Buddy 2: Mind if I Read Your Mind?

Ghost Buddy Series Scholastic Children’s Books Review

I grew up watching Henry Winkler as the Fonz on Happy Days.  That was something we did as a family and I have fond memories of those days. I loved him then and years later I saw him in a movie called Night Shift. I thought he was great in that movie.  I must have watched it two or three times.

When I heard about a year ago that Henry Winkler wrote children’s books, I made a mental note of it to check them out. Fortunately, this opportunity presented itself to me and I jumped at the chance to take a look at both of his books in the Ghost Buddy Series.

I read Ghost Buddy From Zero to Hero to my son Ryan and we really enjoyed it. The plot is perfect for kids in that 8-12 year old range.

Main character Billy Broccoli discovers that his room in his new house is haunted by a pretty cool ghost called “the Hoove”. While at first the Hoove was having some fun at Billy’s expense, he is told by the “higher ups” that he needs to help Billy.

Billy is, well, awkward and a little shy and the kind of kid who saves his tonsil in a jar under his bed. That is bad enough in itself, but the school bully gets a hold of (the jar) and the trouble for Billy Broccoli begins. Will the Hoove be able to help Billy save face?

Ryan and I had some good laughs out loud when the Hoove discovers that the bully has quite the secret of his own! The story moves along smoothly, it’s well written and enjoyable to read out loud. There is even a nice lesson at the end.

We are now reading the second book in the series Ghost Buddy Mind if I Read Your Mind? I really like the story line and am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. The Hoove may not come through on this one, but how else is Billy going to read minds without the his help? I keep thinking a movie based on this series would be fun to watch!

My sister-in-law mentioned that Henry Winkler has co-authored (with Lin Oliver) another series of Hank Zipzer books for kids. I am looking forward to getting that series too. I think Ryan will love them just like these two books.

About Ghost Buddy 1 Zero to Hero

This fast-paced read introduces kids to a funny ghost with a whole lot of attitude!

Billy Broccoli has a new stepfather and stepsister, a new home, and a new roommate — who just happens to be a ghost! Hoover — aka the Hoove — has been haunting the house for nearly 100 years. But the ghostly higher-ups are not pleased with his progress (who knew ghosts got report cards?) and they want Hoover to prove himself by helping Billy succeed at his new school.

How can Hoover help Billy be cool, make friends, and get even with the bully who’s tormenting him? It’s the Hoove’s toughest assignment yet!

About Ghost Buddy 2 Mind if I Read Your Mind?

Billy and Hoover are back in the hilarious new series from bestselling authors Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver!

It’s time for Moorepark Middle School’s annual Speak Out Challenge, and Billy Broccoli thinks he’s got it made. With his best friend Hoover Porterhouse-the ghost with the most-by his side, Billy’s got the competition in the bag. Who wouldn’t vote for a demonstration on mind reading?

But when Billy lands a spot on the seventh grade team, he starts spending more time with his new teammates than he does with Hoover. And the Hoove plays second fiddle to no one! If Billy’s not careful, his secret weapon might just vanish into thin air, leaving Billy to pick up the pieces of a demonstration day disaster!
