The Any Book Reader is a battery operated recording pen-type gadget that is used to record your voice as you read one of your child’s favorite books – any of your child’s books. This device allows you to record your voice and embed it onto stickers that can be placed on the pages of any book you already have at home. I received the Any Book reader for review.
Any Book Reader Review
There is a funny story to tell with this review. When I initially tried the device, I didn’t really bother reading all of the directions. I figured, hey, how tough could this be?
So here’s what I did. I placed all the cute stickers of farm animals, cars and planes on the pages of one of my son’s books. I read specifically just how to record using the device. I attempted to record by reading the whole book not once, but twice and it wasn’t recording my voice. Sure, I could hear the farm animals and planes, but I just couldn’t get it to record my voice.
So, I let the rep. know what was going on. He put me in touch with a rep. from Franklin who kindly told me that I needed to be using the WHITE stickers for recording, not the picture stickers. Those picture stickers are prerecorded with sounds to be used on picture books for toddlers. You know, for getting them to learn their sounds. Mom says, “What does a cow say?” Young child points to the cow image – “MOOOOOOOO.”
OHHHH! I felt like I regressed back into a toddler myself! I should have opened my eyes and read ALL of the directions.
Now that I know how to use this gadget properly, I am pleased to report that it works wonderfully! Once the pen is turned on, you press and hold the on button again until the green light blinks. Once blinking, the device is in the recording mode. I touched one of the white stickers and then pressed and held the volume button, the device makes four short beeps, letting me know it’s ready to record. I read the page and when finished released the button. To test it out, I just touched the sticker and my voice was heard reading that page. It works like a charm.
Being able to re-record over the removable stickers is a great feature. I had fun showing my son Ryan how to record his voice. If this could get him more interested in reading, that would be wonderful.
The Any Book Reader would be ideal for small children that attend day care, or who have grandparents that live out of state, or have a parent who travels. Heck, even a mom who is busy doing something else might like this idea of being two places at once! A child can have mom, dad or grandma read them their favorite story any time!

WOW, I love this. It would be perfect for my four (nearly five) year old! He isn’t reading yet, but has a similar LeapFrog reader and he loves that.
