Wordless Wednesday Spectacle Pond #WW

We spent last Thursday at Spectacle Pond in Lancaster, MA.  Spectacle is an average size (66 acre) pond located in Lancaster just south of Route 2.

When you hear pond, you may say EWWWWW and conjure up images of children coming out of the water with leeches on their legs. However, the water is very clear with a transparency of 19 feet. I was told there are a lot of natural  springs (the bottom of the pond intersects several flowing bodies of ground water).  The shoreline is 75% developed with summer and year round homes.

We were guests of my brother-in-law’s parents. They belong to the JCC. That organization owns a portion of the beach, where there is a community center with a playground, restrooms and showers. So, if you know a member, you can  swim at Spectacle Pond. Adults are $5 and kids are $2. It was clean and refreshing. No wonder it’s a popular place to cool off! We plan on heading back soon!

Wow…can you swim there if your not a member, and just pay more? Or is it members only (and friends of members) have access to the lake?

I love to swim in lakes/ponds. I suggest wearing water shoes to people who are turned off by the potential of feeling “stuff” with their toes. It’s nature! I remember scraping my toes on the bottom of a city pool and hated it.
