Digest Diet Book Review

I have always been fascinated by food and diet. I love food and as a result I am always dieting! In the Digest Diet book, I enjoyed reading about the success stories from those who have followed the diet. I was also very interested in learning about the fat releasing foods. While I was already familiar with the idea that certain foods could help with weight loss, others were new to me. Foods containing vitamin C, dairy products, foods high in protein, healthy fats, quinoa, resveratrol, honey, fiber, vinegar and seasonings are all fat releasing foods.

The first four days of the diet are Phase 1 and called Fast Release. The rules include eating mostly meals of shakes and soups to flush out the toxins, In days 5 through 14 Phase 2, the diet moves into a Mediterranean, lower-carb cycle, allowing a glass of red wine with dinner. Finally, in Phase 3, days 15-21, the diet becomes more balanced with a wider variety of foods such as pizza, pasta and bread. This is the maintenance phase which helps followers to reach their goal weight and maintain what has been lost.

I made the Tri-Color Frittata recipe and both Grant and I loved it. I don’t think I’ve ever made an egg dish with fresh tomatoes and squash. This was colorful, tasty and filling. It actually contains 10 fat releasing foods! I would make this again.

The book is great for those who like a strict plan that tells them exactly what to eat and when. While I do like to know what foods I should be eating, I like to do my own thing  (I am currently following Weight Watchers). However, even if you don’t follow the 21 day diet, the book is full of eye-opening ways to shed fat along with plenty of healthy recipes for the reader to enjoy delicious fat releasing foods.
