If you haven’t seen this video yet, it is a horrible display of bullying. It’s disgusting and tough to watch to say the least. This video has gone viral on You Tube. It has over 1,000,000 hits.
Karen Klein is 68 years old. She is on that bus as a bus monitor to protect the children. Those
kids monsters were relentless, pelting her with insults about her weight and her appearance. Needless to say, they brought her to tears.
Today Show’s Matt Lauer asked her what she would want to say to the parents. She replied that she would want to tell the parents that she was sorry that those kids acted the way they did.
If I was her, I would have lost it and started screaming at these kids. But she was pretty quiet during the verbal assault. I’ve heard another teacher’s opinion that her non-reaction to the bullying may have protected another child from their bullying.
I would like to know where was the bus driver was in all this? Did he have no clue as to what was going on?
What should happen to them? Those 11, 12 and 13 year olds should spend their summer doing community service, at an elderly housing unit or a nursing home assisting the elderly. Maybe they should lose their bus privileges indefinitely.
There is actually a heart-warming outcome here.
This video started out as an evil act by some dumb, heartless middle school kids, but I can’t help but relish the idea of “love” overruling evil here. According to the interview with Matt, this video has created a global outpouring of support. Karen Klein is being shown the real power of the Internet. As of this writing $169,000 has been donated to Karen to give her a vacation of a lifetime and to help her in retirement. May she never have to ride on a bus again. This made me cry too.
The parents and the kids are responsible here. Maybe putting the spotlight on this incident will somehow help put an end to these disgusting criminal acts which is exactly what they are.
I showed the video to my kids. Ryan, who is 7, didn’t really understand the audio. James, who is 10, and one year away from middle school looked at me puzzled and he said, “I just have one question. Why would they do that?”
What was your reaction to the video and what should happen to these kids?
