HappyLight 6000 Reivew

In years past, the long New England winters left me nothing but SAD. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This year my SAD hasn’t quite kicked in yet for a few reasons. We’ve had a mild winter with unseasonably warm temperatures and as of just before Thursday of last week, very little snow. I’ve increased my exercise, which releases more of those feel-good endorphins. Of course it doesn’t hurt that I am looking forward to something this winter; we are heading to Florida for a week in February.

Now,  I have the opportunity to fight SAD with light therapy. I have the HappyLight 6000 on my desk to shine on my face. The unit is lightweight, compact, portable and has a sleek design. I just plugged it in and turned it on. There are two settings, I just use the brightest setting. The minimum recommended use is 30 minutes to 1 hour a day. The Happy Light should be placed within 24 inches of your face.

Just recently, there were mornings when I was up for two hours on the pc and outside it’s total darkness.  What a nice change it is to have  the HappyLight 6000 sitting on my desk. It is almost like having summertime daylight all year round. I’ve only had this light for a week and I don’t claim that I have this new surge of energy or anything, but I do feel more productive and much better than I did while sitting typing in the dark. Can light therapy actually curb sugar cravings? Now it’s time to really put the HappyLight 6000 to the test!

I was pleasantly surprised to see this quote by Dr. Norman Rosenthal, MD.

I loved Dr. Norman Rosenthal’s book Transcendence that I recently reviewed. That fact that he “subscribes ” to light therapy reinforces my conclusion that exposure to the HappyLight will no doubt help me to ward off the winter blues. On another note, I will have to check out Dr. Rosenthal’s book “Winter Blues.”

The replacement bulb for the HappyLight 6000 is $25, rather expensive, however I shouldn’t have to replace it anytime soon considering the current bulb is a 10,000 hour bulb.

Another reason to to be happy? I have the opportunity to host this giveaway of the HappyLight 6000!

Definitely at work. I live in Upstate New York, and winter can seem very very long without a little sunlight!

  2. Beth Hill says

I would take mine to work and put on my desk. Long dreary Michigan winters can really get depressing, this light would be bright and cheerful at work.

  3. says

    Love your picture board.

I had no idea SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder!

I would use it at home in the bedroom – to make sure I am really awake when I get up :)

  4. ellen says

I would use it at home and move it around with me- Iowa is snowy and dismal in the winter and I have been told this works!

  5. stephanie miller says

i would put it at home by the computer desk, i think this would really benefit me!! i do get down a bit when its cloudy, and have to have the sun!!

  6. says

Thanks for a great giveaway! I would put this by the computer because I also have SAD and I spend a lot of time online, or I might use it in the bathroom when I put my makeup on because the lighting in there stinks.

on my desk – the room faces northwest and catches no direct sunlight i the winter

  8. karen b says

I would use it in my bedroom. I just moved my computer from the basement to my room. I like to get up at night and this sure would help. Thanks so much

  9. Debra Jacobs says

Actually, if I won it I’d give it to my oldest daughter who suffers from SAD. She has a small light but it doesn’t seem to help much. This one would be wonderful for her.

  10. says

I would use it either in my bedroom or give it to my oldest daughter for her room, it would be perfect for her to read by or do her homework. Thanks so much for hosting this great giveaway!

  11. nydia says

I would use this in the home office… definately… So I wouldn’t be depressed paying bills and typing documents!!! :)

  12. Krys says

I would use it at home. I get several opportunities to leave the building at work, but I don’t leave my house much when I get there. That and I’m totally a night owl, this would help offset the time I would need in the sun.

  13. says

I’d use it at HOME in my kitchen (and carry with me to the living room). It’s where I spend the bulk of my day and I know I don’t get enough natural light in the winter.

  14. Laurie Harrison says

If I won this mood uplifting light, it would set near my desk at home. I even have a spare plug in ready. (a shortage in the rest of my house)

  15. says

I suffer from a long history of depression and anxiety. I have been wanting to try one of these lights. I’d love to put this uplifting light anywhere in my home!

  16. Tina says

I would use it at home and in my husband’s “man cave”. Our winters are long and we don’t get much sunlight. This would be great.

  17. Bethany M says

I’d use it in the dining room. We live in a “repurposed” basement and there are no windows in our dining room.

  18. says

I’d use it at home near my computer. I hate when it’s dark and I”m on the computer. I can’t seem to get the lighting right.

Coupled with my depression, it’d be a good fit.

  19. Susan Olson says

I would use the lamp in my bedroom where I have a pet bird my husband gave me and the living room while I’m writing on the computer.

  20. says

I think I’d use it by my bed, for reading! It’s much better for you eyes to read in natural light, so this would probably work great!

  21. Pauline M says

I would definately use this in my son’s room. I’ve noticed that he tends to get the winter blues right after christmas for a few months. His grades slip a bit and he tends to get a little lethargic (not running around as much).

  22. Chelsea O. says

I would probably use it at home, in our living room. That room doesn’t get a ton of natural light and I spend most of my time there!
