The HappyLight 6000 is an energy lamp by Verilux that brings Natural Spectrum Daylight into the home or office. I received a HappyLight 6000 for this review and one Moms Own Words reader will win this same energy lamp for their home or office!
HappyLight 6000 Reivew
In years past, the long New England winters left me nothing but SAD. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This year my SAD hasn’t quite kicked in yet for a few reasons. We’ve had a mild winter with unseasonably warm temperatures and as of just before Thursday of last week, very little snow. I’ve increased my exercise, which releases more of those feel-good endorphins. Of course it doesn’t hurt that I am looking forward to something this winter; we are heading to Florida for a week in February.
Now, I have the opportunity to fight SAD with light therapy. I have the HappyLight 6000 on my desk to shine on my face. The unit is lightweight, compact, portable and has a sleek design. I just plugged it in and turned it on. There are two settings, I just use the brightest setting. The minimum recommended use is 30 minutes to 1 hour a day. The Happy Light should be placed within 24 inches of your face.
Just recently, there were mornings when I was up for two hours on the pc and outside it’s total darkness. What a nice change it is to have the HappyLight 6000 sitting on my desk. It is almost like having summertime daylight all year round. I’ve only had this light for a week and I don’t claim that I have this new surge of energy or anything, but I do feel more productive and much better than I did while sitting typing in the dark. Can light therapy actually curb sugar cravings? Now it’s time to really put the HappyLight 6000 to the test!
I was pleasantly surprised to see this quote by Dr. Norman Rosenthal, MD.
I loved Dr. Norman Rosenthal’s book Transcendence that I recently reviewed. That fact that he “subscribes ” to light therapy reinforces my conclusion that exposure to the HappyLight will no doubt help me to ward off the winter blues. On another note, I will have to check out Dr. Rosenthal’s book “Winter Blues.”
The replacement bulb for the HappyLight 6000 is $25, rather expensive, however I shouldn’t have to replace it anytime soon considering the current bulb is a 10,000 hour bulb.
Another reason to to be happy? I have the opportunity to host this giveaway of the HappyLight 6000!
