Rock ‘N Learn DVD Giveaway and Sight Words DVD Review 11/30

My son Ryan is in second grade and currently just below grade level when it comes to reading. While he is currently in every school reading program being offered, I could be more diligent about exposing him to resources that will help bring his reading skills up to grade level and beyond. That’s why I jumped at the chance to let him try the new Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words DVD. One Moms Own Words reader will win the DVD of their choice from Rock ‘N Learn.

Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words DVD Review

This DVD is recommended for ages pre-K and up and when I first popped the video in I was a little leery that Ryan would think this DVD was “for babys”.  The colorful graphics, characters and music kept his attention for the entire video.

Most importantly, he was exposed to over 60 sight words. I also had him watch the bonus section that focused on the shape of each word and the spelling. After watching this section, I gave him a quiz. Out of 54 sight words (We didn’t get to them all.) He spelled 45 correctly. Although not perfect, I was very impressed with that result!

I recorded Ryan watching the video unbeknownst to him.  Watch as he wiggles to the music.

I believe that if he views the DVD one or two more times, he will have those sight words down pat. Based on our experience with the Rock ‘N Learn DVD, I would recommend it as a another great resource for developing reading skills in our kids.

About the Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words DVD

Sight Words, a new DVD program from Rock ‘N Learn, helps kids learn to read. Using fun music and exciting characters, kids learn to read over 60 words. These are the most common words used in the English language and are words kids need to know automatically. This program is perfect for parents with very young kids who appear advanced and eager to learn, as well as older students with remedial needs. It’s effective at helping kids learn to read at all ages. Developed along with four reading specialists having combined classroom experience of over 50 years, Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words is designed to hold the interest of kids and get results. A bonus section helps kids practice their spelling skills and focus on the shapes of words. The program engages kids to participate along with the fun characters. Approximately 50 minutes in length, it’s most effective when kids watch again and again. Before too long, they are reading the sight words with ease.

Pre-k & up. Approx. 50 minutes
