‘Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today’ goes the saying – and taking the same approach with your finances could save you a small fortune sooner rather than later.
Here are 12 ways to save money now and make more room in your budget!
1. Check you’re with the cheapest utility supplier
You could save yourself a few dollars by switching to a cheaper utility supplier, so do some research and see you if you could benefit from a better deal. There are many price comparison websites that could give you a quote in seconds.
2. Fix that leaky tap!
That dripping tap in the bathroom could be causing you unnecessary expense on your bills – as you’re watching your hard-earned money go down the drain. The long-term savings should more than outweigh the short-term cost of getting it
3. Make a shopping list
Before you go to the store or mall, make a shopping list of all the things your household actually needs – and stick to it – so you should only end up with the items you actually want, and none of those costly extras!
4. Change your TV package
If you’re paying for dozens of channels you barely watch, call your provider and see if you can change your deal to one that will let you get the most out of your money.
5. Take a packed lunch to work
Make your own meals and take them with you, rather than buying them from a café, to cut back on your daily spending.
6. Use coupons for your groceries
You could get substantial reductions on your food shopping by using coupons. Regularly check online or in newspapers/magazines for the best offers.
7. Join a customer loyalty scheme
See if your local store offers a loyalty scheme that could earn you points to claim discounts on any items you buy.
8. Why not cycle to work?
If you live relatively close to where you work, save some money on gas every month by cycling or walking instead. Great for your health – and your wealth!
9. Use your local library
Rather than buying books or magazines, why not take advantage of the local library? Some also offer free Internet use, too.
10. Buy reduced items
Many stores have a ‘reduced’ or ‘sales’ section offering brand new items at a fraction of the original cost, so always shop around before you pay full price!
11. Are you getting the best cellphone deal?
Check you’re getting the best deal with your cellphone provider – you could be missing out on deals for extra SMS messages or ‘free minutes’.
12. Shop online
The internet is full of discounts and offers – so get online and see what bargains may be out there. But bear in mind that postage and packaging can sometimes increase the overall cost.
