The Back-to-School Clutter
While I am counting down the days until they go back to school, I don’t look forward to the backpacks full of papers and all the clutter that creates all over my desk. I typically run out of room to store all of these papers in files within my desk, so I start new files and forget where I file things and I lose papers !
Just before the kids got out of school for the summer, their teachers sent home school supply lists for the fall. I filed these papers somewhere, and I now I can’t find them. I had the boys go through their boxes of papers, I went through files on my desk, in my desk and a portable catch-all file and I still-can’t-find- them. True story.
I am hoping that About One will teach me how to get organized and how to declutter once and for all.
The Review
Signing up for the free About One trial was easy. Once I signed up, I logged in to investigate and learn how to use the program. From the home dashboard, I entered each family member’s profile and picture. What’s nice is that information pertaining to health, education, possessions, or memories can be added for each family member. For example, I clicked on my son James name and selected “education”. I added his school and once you add a school for instance, you are prompted to create a new contact that is automatically added to the address book. The program is conveniently organized in this way. If I had an electronic copy of that school supply list, I could simply click on the school and I could upload that document (right on the screen it reads – “Important Documents” where you can click to “add a document”. I’d know where to find it, right there, under James/education/school in one location. That’s priceless.
About One is not just for organizing school papers! For Ryan, I added his health information. Again, once I added his Dr.’s name, I was prompted to add the Dr.’s address to my contact list/address book. Also under health information, I can plug in his health insurance information, including his member ID#. Which made me think if I had ever lost his card, I wouldn’t have had his id number written down. But now, here it is under Ryan’s health information in About One. I can add appointment dates, prescription information and medical conditions as well.
I added a memory to Ryan’s profile also. I uploaded a picture of him feeding the ducks at the York Zoo. When I click on the family tab, this is how that memory is displayed on the Maloney Family Bulletin Board. On the board, is a little message letting me know that I can simply click to send this info. to family and friends in an email newsletter. That’s so convenient!
With the About One storage system, I can upload pictures right to my About One inbox easily through my phone. Well, it was supposed to be easy, but I of course had difficulty. My email wasn’t showing up in my About One inbox. So I clicked to chat with an About One rep. for some help. I received a quick response by a rep. who told me I needed to be using the email that I signed up with to receive emails. Bingo. Problem solved quickly with great customer service!
With About One, I can add our possessions, like our home and automobiles. Once I add these, I have the ability to add important documents that I receive throughout the year pertaining to these items.
While I’ve only had a few days to explore About One, I look forward to using some of the other great features of the program. About One offers what’s called the “shareables” feature. Here, I can print family newsletters, babysitter instructions, including emergency contact information, and health and education histories for a quick reference when filling out school and doctor forms. With About One, I will have the ability to create hardcover photo memory books, greeting cards and more. About One is a fast, fun easy way to get organized with some great time-saving features.
